Sitting On a Great Vintage
Austin Hawley has started making wine barrel furniture from the old Hawley barrels.
A wine barrel loses about half of its flavor each year. After about four years it is time to replace the barrel. Each barrel is hand made from tight-grain, 3 year dried, French or American Oak. Austin had a hard time cutting up this amazing wood for firewood, so he found a way to salvage the old barrels. He has started small business of crafting Adirondack chairs and tables. The chairs are strong and heavy-duty and the natural curve of the barrel staves makes them super comfortable.
